Walleye fishing

YELLOW PICKEREL or WaIIeye A fish famous for its delicious taste. Not a great fighter, but a trier. The Pickerel is caught mostly in the morning and at night, when he comes into the shallows, in schools, to feed. Popping plugs and wobblers are deadly night fishing lures. The average weight is about 2 to 3 pounds.

You'll also find that in many parts of the province there is a spring spawning run of Pickerel. That's the time when you really get them!

Caution: Know the special fishing regulations on fishing for Pickerel.

The Pickerel has large, opaque eyes, hence the name walleye. The body is olive brown to dark brown with numerous flecks of yellow coloration sprinkled over the body and a golden belly.
