The Fish-A-Thon for Cancer started in 2009 by
Ryan Bonin after finding out that a family
member had been diagnosed with terminal Cancer.
The first event took place on August 15, 2009 at
Deer Creek Conservation Area in Norfolk County.
13 people in total fished for the day and the
day ended with a BBQ and prizes for most
pledges, biggest fish and a random draw. Total
amount raised was $3170
The second event took place on September 4, 2010
at Deer Creek. 25 people attended the event.
This year brought many great sponsors and
donations including tackle packs, fishing
charters and many others. Every participant
walked away with a great prize pack. Total money
raised for the day was close to $4500.
The
day goes as follows:
- We fish non-stop for a set amount of time
- You get forms and collect pledges for your
"fish-a-thon" It can be as little as a 25 cent
pledge! Every bit helps.
- We get prizes from various OFN members, tackle
companies and other sources.
- "Most pledges", "big fish", are awarded prizes
and all participants are put into a draw for
prizes
- Post fish-a-thon BBQ will be held
Held at Deer Creek Conservation Area near Long
Point, Ontario
