So
we all know our buddy Dave Mercer,
host of TV’s Facts of Fishing
can get up to some pretty zany antics, but his
last display, throwing out the first ever
opening “cast” in Major League History has to
take the cake. An angler walking out into the
middle of the Rogers Center® rod and reel in
hand was probably the last thing a mainstream
baseball audience expected to see. However, in
Dave’s mind that was part of the goal, putting
our great sport of fishing in front of new
faces, raising awareness that fishing really is
something worth giving a try. The “cast” also
created a great platform to raise money for
Dave’s Casting for a Cure Charity.
With the biggest section of the night and $5
from each ticket sold courtesy of the Blue Jays®
going to the Charity it proved a great success.
But it hasn’t stopped there. It’s unbelievable
and overwhelming where this “cast” has been
seen; Morning Joe on MSNBC, The Score’s
Plays of the Week, ESPN.com, Sports Illusted.com
and 40 other major outlets have all
helped spread the word. It even cracked
YouTube’s top 50 most watched video list and
right now sits as the number 2 video in Taiwan;
how crazy is that. So if you have yet to see it,
here it is and be sure to pass it on, continuing
to spread the word about our great sport. The
more times this video gets watched, the higher
it will be ranked on YouTube and the more people
will see it.
