  1. Lac Seul means “Lake Alone” in French, reflecting its vastness and the feeling of solitude when venturing into its center or exploring its many bays.
  2. It is approximately 150 miles wide, boasts 3,000 miles of shoreline, and covers over 560 square miles (358,400 acres).
  3. Lac Seul is the seventh-largest lake in Ontario and the second-largest lake wholly within Ontario (second to Nipigon).
  4. Originally, it wasn’t as large. In 1928, a dam was built at Lower Ear Falls, raising water levels significantly.
  5. The lake offers excellent walleye and northern pike fishing. Other fish species found in Lac Seul include muskie, yellow perch, whitefish, and the occasional bass.
  6. The water’s tea color provides great angling opportunities throughout the day.
  7. Lac Seul was once a major water highway during the Red Lake Gold Rush, with steamboats and tugboats transporting supplies to mining areas.
