Fishing Gadgets Cont... Fish Scent
Commercial fish scent is still scoffed at by anglers unwilling to give it a fair try, but
tests have shown that it will definitely put the odds in your favor, and will trick a few
more fish into biting. There are literally hundreds of scent products on the market - each
one of them having a two-fold use. Firstly, scent will mask human smell. Any offensive
odors, be it gasoline, nicotine or sweat, will be hidden by the product. Scent will also
add an attractive smell that will entice fish and make them hold on to lures longer than
normal.
I use scent the majority of the time while out fishing, especially
during key periods. These are cold front conditions, while fishing slowly and deliberately
and any time I am throwing jigs or a worm. Scent gives me added confidence in my bait or
technique - a confidence that allows me to perform better when I "feel" I am
being helped. I have watched in amazement during outings when a fish can be coaxed to hit
a scented lure yet will turn up its nose at an identical lure lacking a scent product.
My advice is to look for scents that contain natural additives -
crayfish and minnow extracts have worked well for me. You can also purchase scent that is
specifically designed to attract fish of a certain species. Stock up your boat with a few
bottles of scent this season and see what all the fuss is about. I can guarantee you will
not be disappointed.
Gear and gadgets for fishing are designed to help fisherman improve
their catching skills while learning new techniques along the way. Don't be afraid to try
something new on the water this year, while being prepared to "maximize your fishing
success" at the same time.
